Unspoken: Why We Don't Say What We Mean and What It Costs Us
Dates: October 28, 2026
Meets: Wed., Oct. 28, 9 a.m.-noon
Location: Boise State University-Yanke Research Park Rm 312
Registration Fee and Materials: $137.50
Every relationship, team, and organization has them: the things everyone knows but nobody says, the feelings that get expressed sideways instead of directly, and the conversations that get routed through a third person because going straight to the source feels like too much. These patterns are not character flaws or communication failures. They are neurologically predictable responses to perceived relational risk, and once you understand them, you can begin to change them.
This three-hour course invites participants into an honest and exploratory look at the unspoken words shaping their professional and personal interactions. Drawing on applied neuroscience and conflict resolution research, we will examine why people triangulate conversations, what drives avoidance even when speaking up would clearly serve everyone better, and how early patterns often quietly script the communication habits we carry into adulthood. Participants will leave not just with insight but with practical tools for moving toward the kind of direct, honest communication that builds trust and actually resolves things.
