The Power of Virtual and Augmented Reality

When people hear of virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR), most immediately think of the entertainment or gaming industries. However, the applications of this technology extend far beyond those areas. VR gives the user a fully immersive experience that will eventually include all sensory inputs. It also allows users to truly "experience" their virtual environment. Some experience other environments so fully that VR has been called "the empathy machine." Studies are now showing that people recall information better after learning through VR than through desktop computers. Until recently, acquiring VR for business or personal use has been cost-prohibitive; however, technology costs are lowering quickly and VR is now more accessible than ever. Join this lecture to learn more about this technology and how VR and AR are going to change the way we work, learn, and interact.
